RACE WEEK

How good is this!

R
ace week arrives and you can stand tall and be proud that you have truly done all you can to be at your best.

That’s all you can be, your best. Kona deserves respect, in fact, it demands it.  It is relentless, unforgiving, and brutal. I respect Kona.

If I had a dollar for every time I had been asked “what is your goal”? I wouldn’t be a millionaire (I’m simply not that popular), but I’d have at least 100 bucks.

My goals were sealed in an envelope during May, and I’ll share an image of them, after the race, whatever the outcome. It has and always will be the process that drives me, not the goal.  I am a process driven athlete, in case you haven’t noticed these past 20 weeks.  There is only one day in 20 weeks where my goals take centre stage and that’s race day.  My goals don’t drag me out of bed on a cold winters morning 14 weeks from race day, the process does.  It’s not for everyone, but it works for me.

Taper has been going well.  This week I’ve dropped 10 points of CTL, and dropped 67 points of ATL.  Still 15 hours of training for the week, but really starting to freshen up.  That ratio will continue through the week.  Most important of all I FEEL good.

During this week, I will spend some time reflecting on the blog, it’s such a powerful piece of positive reinforcement.  IRONMAN preps can be hazy at times, you forget so much.

BY THE NUMBERS (22/5/2017 – 8/10/2017) (RACE DAY 14/10/2017)

21 WEEKS / 139 DAYS

SWIM TOTAL KM = 265KMS (AV - 1.9KM PER DAY)

BIKE TIME = 218 HOURS (AV 90 MINS PER DAY)

RUN TOTAL KMS = 1,344KMS (AV 9.6KMS PER DAY)

TOTAL ACTIVE TRAINING TIME = 402 HOURS (AV 2.9 HOURS PER DAY)

TSS (Training Stress Score) = 25,145 (180 Per Day)

I'll be doing a pre race video on Friday, there are so many people to thank, and without laying it all out there, I'll share some race strategies.

Finally, you know you've made it in life when people can have a punt on you at Sportsbet.... what a classic!  Bit disappointed the bookies have me outside American Tim O'Donnell, surely I have him covered!  BAHAHAHAHAHA
