I've refined the art of racing overseas, but not the art of racing at home. Different challenges, I hadn't really given the race itself much thought until the Friday. When you fly, you lock in from the check in counter.
Had raced very well overseas, in conditions that suited me (heat) with a good swim lead.
Port Macquarie is the stark opposite, and was always going to have me chasing on the run. Australia has amazing AG depth, strong swimmers and beast cyclists. Out of the swim with a 4 min deficit, other than a 4 min lead... changes the day entirely.
A terrible mistake on the run course, taking a wrong turn (misdirection), I ended up with 22.1kms for the run split. The 1:17 on my Garmin for the 21.1km... would have been much nicer!
The local atmosphere had it all some quality cheering and even better heckling.
I was aiming for 3 overall wins this season and 2 course records, so always room for improvement.
MALAYSIA - 1ST OVERALL (1ST AG) (COURSE RECORD)
SRI LANKA - 2ND OVERALL (1ST AG)
PORT MAC - 2ND OVERALL (1ST AG)
Significant improvement on the bike over 90kms, has me a more balanced triathlete. I'm hopeful this translates to 180kms. I will find out in 2020.

Thanks for all your support this season. Consistency remains King. PMC chart below.
