Name: Gail Martin
Age Group: 35-39
Home State: NSW
Race Bike Setup: Quintana Roo CD01 (Pink Camo of course!), Shimano RS30 wheels & Ultegra groupset
Squad or/and Coach: Liz Pralica – Active for life Physio (Ironman Australia Legend)
Run Nutrition: Endura Gels, Coke and red frogs.
What year was your first triathlon? 2012 – Tri Pink. 150m/5km/2km. I was buggered!
Favourite Race: And Why? Yeppoon 70.3. Crossing the finish line made me feel like I belonged in this sport. Plus I was able to help a total stranger finish when they were about to quit. A great feeling, and a spirit that I see replicated all the time in this sport.
Dream Race: And Why? At the moment there is one race and one race only – Port Ironman 2015! After crashing the bike and getting a trip to hospital, i have unfinished business with this race.
How do you push through the pain: Break the race up into bite size chunks. If that doesn’t work, sing to take my mind off it. If that doesn’t work – swear like a trooper!
Dinner for 4, who’s coming: Mum. I’d give anything for one more night with her. My husband, my main man and biggest supporter. My best friend Tina, why invite a stranger when you enjoy the company of your friends more. And Lionel Ritchie, if he puts on a good show we might save him some leftovers.
Favourite Quote:
“Your limits are not what you think they are” – Chrissie Wellington
“A DNF will light a fire under you” – Alishia Ballintine
You’re the CEO of the World Triathlon Corporation, what is your first order of business? Pay the Pros like other sports pay theirs. Create an “Iron Newbie” event.
Next 12 Months looks like: Head down bum up for Ironman In May. Possibly an Ultra Marathon after that.
