COLOMBO 70.3 POST RACE
Oli just too good again, damn I love racing this guy. Professional ITU and cycling background, he squeezes the life out of me every time. Hats off, dudded me by 5 mins in a new course record time.
I set my bar at 4:05, I doubt I had it in me, I fired every shot on the day, totally empty, nothing went wrong.
4:10 my fastest ever 70.3, it’s been 5 years since I’ve managed any sort of triathlon PB.
Today’s result is far more significant for me than Malaysia 3 months ago.
I’ve always hidden behind the fact that my bike was my weakest leg in triathlon, this is THE reason why I didn’t take my Professional Triathlon License. Constantly pushing shit up hill and getting nowhere. Today was a watershed day for me, belief is most powerful.
I’m having somewhat of an identity crisis as an athlete, not sure where I belong. I need to have some conversations with people I love and trust.
For context my last 3 70.3’s have been:
Bintan – 2nd to Oli by 15 mins (1st AG by 17 mins)
Malaysia – 1st Overall (1st AG by 14 mins)
Colombo – 2nd Overall to Oli by 5 mins (1st AG by 18 mins)
COLOMBO BY THE NUMBERS:
SWIM – 27:12 – 2nd AG
RIDE - 2:16 / 1ST AG
RUN – 1:23 / 1st AG
It’s been a hell of a week here in Colombo with Koa Sports athletes. I HIGHLY recommend the event, if you’re thinking of making the trip, I’d be all too happy to offer insights and advice. When you are all hurting together, it’s just that little bit easier.
Can’t wait to hit the shores of South Korea in May, another NEW Ironman Asia event, Koa Sports athletes already preparing, there’s nothing like racing alongside them and sharing in the pain.
